C-K Victim Services launches ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign

A new partnership between Chatham-Kent Victim Services and Loblaw is bringing the ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign to the region, providing a discreet way for individuals to seek help if they feel unsafe in public spaces.

The initiative, originally launched in the United Kingdom in 2016, allows individuals experiencing intimate partner violence or threatening situations to ask staff at participating locations, “Is Angela here?” Employees trained in the program will respond by connecting them with Chatham-Kent Victim Services for immediate assistance.

The campaign will be implemented at all Loblaw-affiliated stores in Chatham-Kent, including Real Canadian Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart, and No Frills. Staff will receive training to ensure they can effectively assist those in need.

Kate do Forno, executive director of Chatham-Kent Victim Services, said the initiative is an important step toward community safety.

“We are thrilled to partner with Loblaw to bring the ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign to Chatham-Kent. This initiative will provide a vital resource for individuals who may find themselves in uncomfortable or dangerous situations while out in the community,” she said.

Chatham-Kent Victim Services is a non-profit organization that provides confidential, client-centred support to victims of crime and tragedy. The organization takes a collaborative approach to empower survivors through education and advocacy.
