Rainfall warning issued in Chatham-Kent

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning in Chatham-Kent as rain, heavy at times is expected on Wednesday morning through early Thursday morning.

Forecasters say the ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall, adding that total rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm is expected, with locally higher amounts possible if thunderstorms repeatedly impact the same area.

“Rain begins Wednesday morning over extreme southwestern Ontario before reaching the Golden Horseshoe Wednesday afternoon,” Environment Canada officials say.

“With thunderstorms expected, rainfall amounts may exceed 50 mm over some areas, particularly over southwestern Ontario. Rain will end from west to east overnight into early Thursday morning.”

For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources office. Visit Ontario.ca/floods for the latest details.

“Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #ONStorm,” forecasters added.

Meanwhile, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority issued a watershed conditions statement and flood outlook on Tuesday. Details, here.
