James ALVIN Griggs of Wallaceburg passed away peacefully at Riverview Gardens in Chatham on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the age of 89.
Alvin was the son of the late Charles Edward ‘Ted’ & Laverna (McCraken) Griggs.
Beloved husband of 67 years to Mary Jane (DeMoore). Loving father of Monica Hereygers (Jim) and the late Allan Griggs.
Dear grandfather of Crystal (Brian), Tina (Rachelle), Missy and Sean.
Brother of Leonard, Paul, Edna, Rita, Moneta and the late Lily, Margaret, Veronica and Irene.
He will be missed by his cat Blackie.
Alvin had retired from Crown Cork & Seal, having also worked at Libby Container and as a school bus driver and ambulance attendant.
He was also a Scout Leader in the town of Dresden.
Alvin was a member of the Canadian Belgian Dutch Club in Wallaceburg and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 18 at The Forks.
Alvin and Mary Jane spent many years camping at Rondeau Shores.
Family and Friends are invited for visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 4-7 PM on Tuesday.
The funeral will be celebrated at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 9 at 11 AM.
Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
