Back in early March my wife and I attended a couple of curling matches in a bonspiel where my oldest daughter was competing.
Before the 2010 Winter Olympics, when Canada was the host in Vancouver, BC, I hadn’t paid much attention to the sport of curling.
However, with Canada’s teams doing so well, and eventually winning gold, I got right hooked on watching this sport.
The thing that really stands out to me in curling is how precise the shots need to be in order to win.
The slightest margin of error can ruin the whole game.
Points scored literally come down to inches, or less, and in some cases a measurement even needs to be made to determine the winner.
Alyssa’s games were all very close, and two out of her three matches were decided on the last shot of the game.
The Christian life is also like that, where even the slightest compromise can undo a whole lot of good.
Look what the apostle Paul said to the Ephesian church in Ephesians 5:3 on the subject of sexual purity: “But among you there must not even be a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.”
One of my favourite salty snacks is a bag of Tostito’s, but not just any bag.
I like the ones that say they have “a hint of lime”.
It’s amazing to me how very different they taste from just regular Tostito’s, yet they have only a “hint” of lime flavour added.
Friends, little can be much sometimes, as is the case in curling and Christ-like conduct.
Let’s be mindful of those little compromises that can creep up and soil the outcome of our living.
Let’s pray and ask God to help steer us straight!
