The Glasshouse Nursery helps rescue 50 cats with the ‘Cat Lounge’

The Glasshouse Nursery, celebrating its 50th year in business, continues to find new ways to grow with the community. One of its newest and most heartwarming additions is the Purrculator Café — a cozy coffee spot with a cause.

In partnership with Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR), The Glasshouse Nursery has created a welcoming space where coffee, compassion, and community come together.

At the heart of the café is the Cat Lounge — an enclosed, interactive area where guests can sip their coffee, relax, and spend time with rescued cats. For a small donation, visitors can enjoy the company of the lounge’s feline residents and maybe even meet their future furry family member.

Since opening the lounge in July 2024, the community’s response has been incredible. In just a matter of months, 50 rescued cats have found loving homes through the space — a milestone that reflects the spirit of generosity and connection that has defined The Glasshouse Nursery for five decades.

“Seeing customers bond with these animals and knowing we’re helping them find forever homes has been one of the most rewarding parts of this new venture,” says Spencer Robbins, General operations manager of The Glasshouse Nursery, in a media release. “It’s been a beautiful reminder of how meaningful small moments can be in the larger story of our business.”

In addition to the adoptions, the Cat Lounge has helped fund the spaying and neutering of 165 rescued cats, thanks to the generous donations from café and lounge visitors — a meaningful contribution to animal welfare in Chatham-Kent.

As The Glasshouse Nursery celebrates its 50th anniversary, the team is proud to continue building spaces that bring people together — whether it’s over a shared love of plants, pets, or great coffee.

Visit The Glasshouse Nursery and Purrculator Café at 56 Creek Road in Chatham, just five minutes off Highway 401, and help make a difference — one cat, one cup, and one beautiful day in the garden at a time.
