Update: All weather alerts have ended in Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada officials say there is a “risk of a tornado” in Chatham-Kent on Tuesday, as a special weathers statement and severe thunderstorm watch has been issued in the community.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail,” forecasters say, adding that damaging wind gusts to 110 km/h and large hail up 4 cmare possible, along with the risk of a tornado.

The timing is the afternoon into the early evening.

“A cold front moving through the area is expected to trigger a few severe thunderstorms,” forecasters say.

“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn’t a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.”
