Walpole Island First Nation sending busload of residents to Dresden dump meeting

A community bus will be available Monday, May 5, to transport Walpole Island First Nation members to a public meeting in Dresden regarding a proposed landfill site.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre, located at 1212 North Street in Dresden.

The bus will depart from the Mall at Thunderbird Plaza in Wallaceburg at 5 p.m., with community members asked to arrive between 4:45 and 5 p.m. Seating is limited to 40 spots and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The service is open to Walpole Island Band members only.

Attendees are asked to register in advance by filling out the form available online, here.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is hosting the meeting.

In attendance will be Chatham-Kent Municipal staff along with expert consultants retained by the municipality.

Chatham-Kent Councillors Jamie McGrail and Rhonda Jubenville and other members of Council will also be in attendance.

This meeting will allow for information to be shared on the current situation and will give Dresden residents, as well as interested area residents, an opportunity to ask questions and have their voices heard in a public forum, Municipal officials say.

More information on the landfill is available at https://www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/defend-dresden.
