Police pursuit in Chatham leads to multiple charges for a G1 driver

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On May 7, 2025, at approximately 7:29 p.m., the Chatham-Kent Police Service attempted a traffic stop after an automatic license plate reader flagged a vehicle with plates registered to another vehicle. The suspect vehicle, a silver Honda Civic, failed to stop and attempted to evade police.

The vehicle was seen driving dangerously—running red lights and stop signs, and nearly colliding with other motorists. It eventually crashed into a hydro pole, and the occupants fled on foot. Officers pursued and arrested the driver, a 21-year-old male from Chatham, shortly afterward. Two additional suspects, a 23-year-old male and an 18-year-old male, both from Chatham, were also detained.

Further investigation revealed that the driver held only a G1 license, and the vehicle had no valid registration or insurance. He was charged with dangerous driving, fleeing from police, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, using license plates not authorized for the vehicle, and operating a vehicle without insurance.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters and is currently being held for a bail hearing.
