Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On May 8, 2025, at about 12:24 p.m., Chatham-Kent police responded to a reported theft in progress involving a 54-year-old Tilbury man who was allegedly seen hiding items in a backpack and leaving a Chatham retail store without paying.
The man, known to the store from previous incidents, was found nearby and arrested. He is charged with theft under $5,000 and possession under $5,000.
He was taken to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters and remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
