Ontario invests in inclusive baseball programs through ‘Jays Care’

Ontario is investing $300,000 in the Jays Care Foundation to expand access to baseball programming for children and youth across the province, with a focus on inclusion and accessibility. The funding, provided through the Inclusive Grassroots Recreation (IGR) program, will support Jays Care’s Challenger Baseball and Indigenous Rookie League initiatives.

“Jays Care Foundation is deeply grateful to the Ontario Ministry of Sport for its continued generous support,” said Jules Porter, Director of Programs for Jays Care. “This contribution will inspire community connections, cultivate a love for baseball, and support the well-being of youth living with disabilities and Indigenous youth across the province. Together, we are fostering a healthier, more connected, and confident future for young people across Ontario.”

The province’s investment reflects a growing commitment to supporting underrepresented and marginalized youth in sport. “Our government is proud to partner with world-class organizations like Jays Care,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “As Ontario families face rising costs due to the threat of tariffs, our government is breaking down barriers for children of all backgrounds and abilities so they can experience the life-changing benefits of participating in sport and recreation.”

Challenger Baseball offers adaptive programming for children with disabilities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment, while the Indigenous Rookie League provides tailored baseball opportunities in Indigenous schools and communities. These initiatives aim to promote personal development, healthy lifestyles, and strong community connections through sport.

“Ontario’s investment in Jays Care Foundation’s Indigenous Rookie League creates meaningful pathways for Indigenous youth to build essential skills, forge strong community connections, and live active lives,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation. “Supporting Indigenous families through sport delivers lasting impacts that strengthen entire communities.”

Since its launch in 2021-22, the IGR program has helped more than 65,000 children and youth participate in community sport and recreation across Ontario. The latest funding ensures that more young people—regardless of background or ability—have a chance to thrive through baseball.
