Outdoor water restrictions lifted in Wheatley and Tilbury, lawn watering restrictions remain in place

Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (CK PUC) is lifting the outdoor water restriction for all customers, both residential and commercial, on municipal water in Wheatley and Tilbury.

“The temporary water treatment system is now up and running in Wheatley, which has alleviated some of the pressure on the system, so we are lifting the Outdoor Water Restriction that was issued on April 25,” said PUC Director of Operations, Karen Burgess, in a media release.

The Lawn Watering Restriction will, however, remain in place, and are as follows:

– This applies to lawn watering; all irrigation uses and all other non-essential uses of the potable water supply.

– Customers with odd numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on odd numbered days.

– Customers with even numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on even numbered days.

– There will be a 2-month grace period for newly sodded lawns.

Work continues rebuilding the Wheatley Water Treatment Plant damaged in the September 2023 fire.

The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission appreciates the patience of all the affected residents and hopes to have the water treatment plant back in full operation by this August.
