Municipality of Chatham-Kent preparing for potential postal strike

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) may be entering a national strike.

“Canada Post’s operations may be shut down for the duration of a national strike, which will cause mail-related service disruptions in a number of Municipal service areas,” Municipal officials say.

“Mailed items such as payments, applications, building permits, registrations or other documents could be delayed in arrival and lead to late fees or longer processing times.”

Municipal officials say to avoid late fees, interruptions, or delays, residents are encouraged to use alternate payment or delivery methods where possible including:

– bringing mail directly to a Municipal Service Centre or Customer Service Drop Box

– submitting documents through email where possible

– arranging pre-authorized payments

“Payment due dates will not change and late fees will still apply should payments be missed,” Municipal officials say.

“Property owners can opt to sign up for ebilling to receive their upcoming property tax bill. With sign up available through the Chatham-Kent Property Tax Portal at Property Tax Online Portal – Property Tax.
