From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
Sometimes, when we see all the troubles in our world and the enormity of the issues, we can quickly get overwhelmed.
Food bank numbers continue to rise, as does the homeless population and all the while as food prices increase.
Food insecurity is becoming an issue that isn’t looking to go away anytime soon.
So, what can one person do?
It seems like our efforts would be just a drop in a bucket.
Well, do you remember the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 with just a minimal amount of provisions?
When this predicament came upon the disciples, as to how they could possibly provide enough food to feed such a large crowd, Jesus stunned them with His response.
Sure, a young lad had donated the meagre supplies, five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how long would that last?
Luke 9:13 records for us what Jesus said to them, “YOU give them something to eat.”
In the original language of the Bible the word “you” is emphasized in this statement.
It must have seemed ridiculous and unreasonable for Jesus to demand this of them, but He had a plan.
In our hands, our resources are limited, but in God’s hands anything is possible.
God doesn’t have His back up against the wall, no, what’s holding Him back is you and I failing to get started with what we already have on hand, regardless of the amount.
I remember hearing on the news a week before Easter how members of the Knights of Columbus in Chatham collected over 20,000 pounds of food for The Salvation Army.
Do you know how they did it?
One small grocery bag at a time.
C’mon, let’s get started.
Let’s see what we have on have on hand to help others and start with that.
Then, let’s pray that the Lord will multiply our efforts to help many, just like He did that day with the loaves and the fish.
