George Kernohan of Morpeth captures CKHA Foundation 50/50 jackpot

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation’s (CKHAF) Spring 50/50 fundraiser has wrapped up with George Kernohan of Morpeth claiming the $50,860 jackpot. The winning ticket was drawn on June 12, and Foundation staff surprised Kernohan with the news at his Ridgetown workplace.

“I was pretty surprised,” said Kernohan, who bought the ticket online just two days before the draw. “I’ve supported the hospital 50/50s for years, but I never thought that would happen. It was obviously worth it, and now I can buy some more tickets and keep supporting our hospital.” He plans to share the winnings with family, take a trip, and possibly purchase a new motorcycle.

Funds raised through the draw will support the Highest Priority Needs at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA), including essential medical equipment and infrastructure upgrades at hospital sites across the region.

“The success of our Spring 50/50 has once again shown how deeply this community cares about its local hospital, and for one another,” said CKHAF President and CEO Christine Mitchell. “Every ticket purchased helps us make a real difference in the lives of patients, and we’re so happy to celebrate this life-changing win with George and his whole family.”

This year’s Spring campaign raised $101,720 in total, and CKHAF now turns its focus to the Summer 50/50, set to launch in August. Updates will be shared on the Foundation’s social media platforms.
