Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 39-year-old Chatham man is facing multiple charges after police responded to a theft at a public facility on Wellington Street West.
Police say the theft occurred around 3:15 p.m. on June 25, with items taken from a front desk area while the complainant was present. Later that evening, the victim tracked her phone’s location and discovered her credit and debit cards had been used at local businesses.
Surveillance footage led officers to the suspect’s residence, where the man surrendered the stolen phone and other items. He also made several admissions to the theft and related fraud.
The man, who was already wanted in connection with a May 2025 theft investigation, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, fraud under $5,000, and unauthorized use of a credit card. He was held for a bail hearing.
