Off-duty officer assists after a shoplifting incident in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On July 13, 2025, at approximately 7:17 p.m. an off-duty Chatham-Kent Police Service officer observed a 29-year-old male from Chatham concealing items and leaving a store without making a purchase.

The individual fled the scene on foot and approached a nearby residence, attempting to gain entry without permission.

Officers responded to the area and located the individual.

Upon investigation, the individual was charged with the following:

– Theft and Possession Under $5,000

– Unlawful in a Dwelling

He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, and he was released with a scheduled future court date of August 21, 2025.
