Sarnia Police partnering with MTO & OPP to address increased transport traffic

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: The Sarnia Police Service Traffic Services Unit has been working with our partners at OPP and MTO to address increased commercial motor vehicle traffic in the City of Sarnia.

Transport trucks and other commercial motor vehicles are required by City Bylaw to stay on designated roads. These include Highway 402 and Highway 40/Modeland Rd. Transports are only permitted to travel on City roads with a permit from the City of Sarnia. Exmouth is designated as an alternate heavy-load corridor; however, it cannot be travelled unless there is signage indicating travel is permitted (i.e. when a detour is in place) or when the driver has a permit.

This year alone, SPS has issued 251 Provincial Offence Notices related to commercial motor vehicle stops. 37 of these were issued just yesterday.

When officers stop commercial motor vehicles from the 402, two tickets are issued. One for violating the City bylaw – a $490.00 fine, and another for Disobey Sign Section 182 (2) of the Highway Traffic Act – a $110 fine.
