With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Suzanna Meyer at the age of 102.
She is survived by her three sons, Hank Dixon (Linda), John (Doreen) and David (Colleen), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Hendrick Meyer and her much-loved grandson Collin Meyer.
Suzanna was born in Zutphen, the Netherlands.
She survived the German occupation of the Netherlands during the Second World war, serving in the Red Cross during last years of the occupation.
She always expressed tremendous gratitude for the French and Canadian forces who liberated her city at the cost of many lives.
After the war, Suzanna went on to earn a Diploma A – Nursing Care (1948) and passed her Theoretical and Practical Exam in Obstetrics (1952), going on to serve as a Midwife.
In 1958 she immigrated to Canada with her husband and new son.
Suzanna went on to work as a nurse for many years, completing a Diploma in Public Health Nursing and a Diploma in Outpost Nursing from Dalhousie University in 1979.
She spent several years working as an Outpost Nurse in numerous Northern Ingenious communities.
Her love of the North and the people who live there was evident in the many challenges she took on during this time.
In 1982 she earned a diploma of Psychiatric Nursing from the Nova Scotia Hospital.
Mom was a person of deep faith, who as friends termed it, “was a real prayer warrior”.
She impacted numerous lives through her involvement in the local Church and had a special interest in supporting the persecuted Church abroad.
Family and Friends are invited to visitation at the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231) on Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 10-10:45am.
Her funeral service will follow at 11am with Rev. Dr. Hank Dixon officiating.
