Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Chatham-Kent and Rondeau Park, warning of the potential for damaging weather conditions Thursday evening.
Forecasters say conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts up to 90 km/h, torrential rainfall possibly exceeding 50 mm, and nickel-sized hail.
Residents are advised to seek shelter immediately if threatening weather approaches. Environment Canada reminds the public that lightning can be deadly and encourages people to stay indoors when thunder roars. Drivers are also urged not to attempt travel through flooded roadways.
Emergency Management Ontario recommends taking cover and monitoring forecasts and alerts. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions could lead to storms with damaging hail, wind or rain.
To report severe weather, residents can email ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or share updates on X using the hashtag #ONStorm.
