Kent Agricultural Hall of Fame to honour new inductees

The Kent Agricultural Hall of Fame will welcome five new members at its annual induction ceremony on Tuesday, November 18, at Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club north of Chatham.

Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. with a “Meet and Greet” at 11 a.m., followed by lunch and presentations of the inductees’ biographies. Tickets are $45 and can be reserved by contacting Kathy Vanek at 519-683-2929. The event is open to anyone with agricultural or rural interests.

This year’s inductees include John Jaques of the former Township of Zone, recognized for his leadership in advancing agricultural technology, policy, and sustainability initiatives; Bryan and Shannon Prince of Merlin, honoured for their advocacy of sustainable practices, inclusive community building, and their ongoing work in preserving the history of the Buxton Settlement; and Bill and Jean Sloan of Bothwell (both deceased), acknowledged for their contributions to East Kent’s economy through local employment and business support.

Since its inception in 1989, the Hall of Fame has inducted 208 members, with 17 also honoured at the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame. A listing of inductees can be viewed in the lobby of the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre.

The Board of Directors continues to welcome nominations of individuals who have made lasting contributions to agriculture and rural life in Chatham-Kent. Nomination forms are available online at chatham-kent.ca/aghoff.

The Hall’s annual meeting will be held December 4 at 1:30 p.m. at Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club.
