E. coli warning issued for Willow Beach on Walpole Island

The Walpole Island Health Centre is advising the public to avoid swimming at Willow Beach due to elevated E. coli levels in the water.

A public health notice shared on social media Monday states that the bacterial count at Willow Beach has reached 130, surpassing the recommended safety threshold of 100. According to health officials, swimming in these conditions carries an increased risk of eye, ear, throat, and gastrointestinal illnesses.

The advisory emphasizes that it is not recommended to swim in the area while levels remain in exceedance.

Other beaches on Walpole remain safe for swimming.

The health centre, located on River Road on Walpole, issued the alert as part of its regular monitoring program.
