Firearm found in burned Sarnia home

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 35-year-old man with no fixed address has been arrested in connection with a firearm found inside a burned residence on Devine Street.

Sarnia police said officers and fire crews responded to a structure fire on July 26 in the 800 block of Devine Street. After the fire was extinguished, a rifle was discovered just outside a bedroom and seized by police.

An investigation identified the firearm as being in the possession of a man who was under multiple court-ordered firearms prohibitions and probation conditions. A warrant was issued for his arrest after efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.

On Aug. 5, officers on proactive patrol spotted the man in the area of College Avenue and Lochiel Street. He was arrested on the strength of the outstanding warrant and taken to police headquarters.
