Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Chatham-Kent at 12:40 p.m. EDT Tuesday.
Meteorologists are tracking a thunderstorm capable of producing heavy rain, which may cause flash flooding and significantly reduce visibility.
The agency advises residents to take cover if threatening weather approaches and to avoid driving through flooded roadways. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
Emergency Management Ontario also recommends people seek shelter immediately during severe weather.
Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are expected to produce damaging hail, wind or rain.
Environment Canada encourages the public to monitor alerts and forecasts and to report severe weather by emailing ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or posting on X using the hashtag #ONStorm.
