OPP officials allege: The Lambton County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising the public of ongoing traffic congestion along Highway 402 westbound leading to the Bluewater Bridge.
Increased commercial traffic volumes, other vehicle traffic, and construction in the area are contributing to the delays.
In response, the Lambton OPP is increasing enforcement efforts along the Highway 402 corridor to maintain road safety and ensure traffic laws are followed by all road users.
This traffic enforcement initiative, called Operation Safe Approach, aims to promote safe driving habits.
Officers will be focusing on unsafe and illegal driving behaviours by both commercial and passenger vehicles.
These actions pose significant risks to public safety.
Motorists are reminded to:
· Stay in your lane and avoid using shoulders or emergency turnarounds
· Avoid illegal manoeuvres such as reversing or making U-turns
· Follow all posted signage
· Expect delays and allow extra time to reach your destination
· Check Bluewater Bridge wait times before travelling at https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/bwt-taf/menu-eng.html#s1
· Use https://511on.ca to check traffic and construction updates before travelling
“Road safety is always a top priority for Lambton OPP. I urge all members of the motoring public to remain alert to potential traffic delays and stopped traffic along our local roadways, in particular Highway 402 approaching the Bluewater Bridge. Always remember to monitor your speed, leave plenty of space between vehicles, and never reverse along a highway to avoid a traffic delay. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and ultimately the OPP wants to ensure that everyone gets home safe to their family,” stated Lambton OPP – Interim Detachment Commander, Inspector Ross Stuart.
The Lambton OPP recognizes the inconvenience these delays may cause to the motoring public and thank everyone for the continued cooperation and understanding as construction and enforcement efforts continue to keep the roads safe for all to use.
