Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 20-year-old Sarnia man has been charged in connection with two separate incidents involving voyeurism and a residential break and enter.
Police say the first incident happened Aug. 7 at a store in the 1300 block of Exmouth Street, where a 16-year-old reported a man had positioned himself unusually close to her before moving away with a phone held low at his side. She believed he had taken a photo under her skirt and alerted her mother, who contacted police.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage provided by the store’s corporate security and identified a suspect, who was later arrested and held for bail.
While he was in custody, police linked him to a second incident that occurred on Aug. 13 at about 1:55 a.m. in the area of Mill Street and Lakeshore Road. Police say a woman was awoken by a man standing at the foot of her bed, attempting to pull the covers off her. She screamed and the intruder fled.
A police dog track did not locate a suspect but yielded evidence that investigators say tied the same man to the break-in.
The accused has been charged with voyeurism, break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of breach of probation and failing to comply with a disposition under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Following a bail hearing, he was remanded into custody.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and they have not ruled out the possibility of other related or unreported incidents.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sarnia police or Crime Stoppers.
