Man arrested after stolen bicycles recovered in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Chatham-Kent police say a 42-year-old Chatham man has been arrested after several stolen bicycles and other property were recovered.

Police responded to a report of a break and enter on Prince Arthur Avenue in Chatham on Aug. 27, where two bicycles and other items were reported missing.

The following day, the complainant spotted one of the bicycles being ridden by a man at an apartment complex on Pine Street. After confronting the suspect, the complainant recovered the bike.

When police arrived around 8:54 a.m. on Aug. 28, officers located the second stolen bicycle on the back patio of the suspect’s apartment. The man returned to the area during the investigation and was arrested for possession of stolen property under $5,000.

A search warrant was later executed at the apartment, where officers recovered another stolen bicycle and property linked to a separate break and enter.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 4 by video.
