Sarnia police shut down ‘trap house,’ seize drugs, gun and cash

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Sarnia police say a major drug investigation has led to the shutdown of a well-known “trap house” on Tecumseh Street, months after the residence was featured in a YouTube video that showed a group of young men boasting about drug trafficking in the city while flashing stacks of cash.

The Major Case Action Team, assisted by the Emergency Response Team and the police service’s canine unit, executed a search warrant at the home shortly before 9 p.m. on Aug. 25. Four people were arrested at the scene. Police say one of the occupants became combative during the arrest, prompting officers to use a conducted energy weapon.

A search of the home uncovered a loaded Glock Gen43X handgun with ten rounds in the magazine, two additional magazines, a speed loader and a holster. Officers also seized 261 rounds of ammunition, multiple cellphones, 3.06 grams of suspected MDMA, 0.43 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 84 morphine pills, 15 unidentified pills, 39 hydromorphone pills, 77 oxycodone pills and more than 336 grams of pressed cocaine. Drug packaging materials, digital scales and $19,685 in cash were also recovered.

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is just over $42,000.

Police say the four people arrested are facing charges that include possession of cocaine, morphine, oxycodone, hydromorphone and MDMA for the purpose of trafficking, as well as unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Additional charges include two counts of failing to comply with probation against one accused, and one count of failing to comply with a release order against another.

All four were remanded into custody following a court appearance.
