St. Angela Merici student choir to perform with Rik Emmett at Mississauga event

A celebrated student choir from St. Angela Merici Catholic School will share the stage with Canadian rock legend Rik Emmett and acclaimed guitarist Donna Grantis at the Mississauga Music Walk of Fame this weekend.

The Sammies, led by music specialist Jacquelyn McGlynn, are scheduled to perform at about 12:20 p.m. Sunday during the ceremony at Port Credit Memorial Park. They will close the event with a live performance of Triumph’s anthem Hold On.

The performance marks another milestone in a year of achievements for the choir, which has appeared in the national Music Monday video with Emmett, performed across southwestern Ontario and won the 2025 CBC Canadian Music Class Challenge. McGlynn was also recognized with the national Outstanding Teacher Award, which helped bring steel pan drums into the classroom.

School board officials said the invitation reflects both the students’ dedication and McGlynn’s leadership. “Through the Sammies, Jacquelyn has inspired a love of music that has resonated across our system,” said Lisa Demers, director of education.

McGlynn called the opportunity a dream come true. “To stand on stage performing live with Rik Emmett and Donna Grantis is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and is an experience we will never forget,” she said.
