Update: Driver charged after vehicle crashes into Sarnia DriveTest Centre

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 73-year-old woman has been charged after a vehicle crashed through the front windows of the DriveTest Centre on Lambton Mall Road in Sarnia late last month.

Police, fire and paramedics responded to the collision around 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 27. One client at the centre was taken to hospital with minor injuries, while the driver was not hurt.

Sarnia police said Friday their investigation is complete and the woman, a Sarnia resident, has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

The charge was laid under Section 130(1) of the Act, which falls under Part I of the Provincial Offences Act and does not allow police to release identifying information about the driver.

Police noted the offence reflects legislative changes brought in under Ontario’s Safer Streets Stronger Communities Act, which permits careless driving charges in parking lots.
