Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A man and woman face multiple charges after Chatham-Kent police say a robbery involving bear spray led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle early Tuesday.
Police were called to Stewart Line in Wallaceburg around 4 a.m. after a 38-year-old man reported finding suspects inside his truck while another vehicle, which had been reported stolen, was parked nearby. When the man tried to stop the theft, he was assaulted and sprayed with bear spray. He did not require further medical treatment.
With assistance from the K9 Unit and a drone operator, officers located a 37-year-old Chatham man hiding in a cornfield. He was arrested and charged with several offences, including robbery with violence, assault with a weapon, possession of stolen property and administering a noxious substance.
A 30-year-old Wallaceburg woman was later arrested on First Street in connection with the incident. She was also charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
Both suspects were taken to Chatham-Kent police headquarters, where they remain in custody awaiting bail.
