Wallaceburg arrest made in weapons case linked to 2024 investigation

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A Wallaceburg man wanted on weapons and assault charges has been arrested by Chatham-Kent police.

The case dates back to January 2024 when officers responded to a weapons complaint in Wallaceburg and found a firearm inside a residence. Police said the man fled before officers arrived. Investigators later determined he was bound by a firearms prohibition order and was linked to past assault incidents involving a victim.

The man was arrested and charged with assault, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, tampering with a firearm serial number, possession of a firearm or ammunition, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, assault contrary to court orders, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was released with conditions that included DNA submissions and a court date in March 2024, but failed to attend, leading to a warrant for his arrest.

On Wednesday at about 6:23 p.m., police said officers spotted the man walking on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg and arrested him on the outstanding warrants connected to DNA orders, aggravated assault and weapon-related offences. He was taken to police headquarters and remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
