Event to highlight restoration efforts on the St. Clair River

The community will have a chance to learn about decades of restoration work on the St. Clair River during an event planned for October.

The 3rd annual Honouring the St. Clair River evening is set for Oct. 23 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 447 in Corunna. The gathering will provide updates on habitat and sediment projects, alongside perspectives from Indigenous speakers on the cultural and spiritual value of water.

The Canadian Remedial Action Plan Implementation Committee is hosting the event as part of its efforts to raise awareness about the St. Clair River, which was listed as an Area of Concern in 1987 by Canadian and U.S. officials due to the impacts of urban and industrial development.

For more than 30 years, local residents, First Nation communities, governments and industry have been working together to improve water quality and aquatic habitat with the goal of removing the St. Clair River from the list of Great Lakes Areas of Concern.
