Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A Chatham man is facing multiple charges after a late-night disturbance at a residence led to assaults on police officers.
Police said they were called to a home in Chatham around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, where a 53-year-old man had become aggressive and threatening while intoxicated. Surveillance video showed the man throwing a weapon during an altercation, police said.
When officers arrived, the man resisted efforts to de-escalate the situation and assaulted an officer. He was taken into custody, but police said he became aggressive again and assaulted another officer while being held.
The man was charged with assaulting a peace officer, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and a second count of assaulting a peace officer. He is being held for a bail hearing.
