Traffic stop leads to arrest in stolen vehicle case

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 34-year-old Chatham-Kent man is in custody after a vehicle stop in Chatham led to the discovery of a stolen vehicle.

Police said officers conducted a traffic stop on Eugenie Street around 12:30 a.m. Sept. 23 for a defective headlight. The driver was issued provincial offence notices, but further investigation showed the licence plate on the vehicle did not match its registration. The plates were seized, and the vehicle was towed.

Later that day, police confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen. The suspect was located and charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, three counts of failing to comply with a probation order, driving while under suspension, and driving with improper headlights.

The man was taken to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters and is being held for bail.
