Hot Rods for Hospice raises record funds in East Kent

A car show in East Kent has set a fundraising record for the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.

The third annual East Kent Hot Rods for Hospice, held Sept. 20 at the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus, brought in $34,744.59. The event was organized by Ridge Runners East Kent and drew more than 330 classic cars and thousands of visitors for a day that included a soapbox derby, live music, children’s activities, emergency vehicle displays and raffles.

“We had an outstanding turnout that saw more than 330 classic cars roll through and thousands of people enjoying the day,” said Emily Vollans, head of the planning committee and a member of Ridge Runners East Kent. “We’re fortunate to have Hospice in our community and our team is honoured to support hospice families while also bringing a large-scale event back to East Kent.”

Hospice officials said the proceeds will support end-of-life care and bereavement services across the community.

“Thank you to the Ridge Runners East Kent planning committee, event sponsors, volunteer and attendees who dedicated their Saturday to the success of this year’s Hot Rods for Hospice,” said Brock McGregor, executive director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation. “The funds raised will help us to continue to provide end-of-life care as well as grief and bereavement services to the community of Chatham-Kent. It is thanks to the generous support of community events like Hot Rods for Hospice that the Chatham-Kent Hospice can provide vital services to our community at no cost.”
