The Chatham-Kent Police Service is taking part in Canada Road Safety Week, running from May 12 to 18.
Police said officers will participate in traffic enforcement initiatives and public awareness campaigns throughout the week aimed at improving safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians across Chatham-Kent.
The national campaign, led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, focuses on reducing dangerous driving behaviours including distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, aggressive driving and seatbelt violations.
Residents can expect increased traffic enforcement throughout the municipality, along with daily road safety messaging, educational social media posts and community engagement initiatives promoting safe driving habits.
Police are encouraging drivers to avoid distractions, obey speed limits, never drive impaired, wear seatbelts and remain alert while sharing the road.
“Our goal is simple, to help prevent collisions, injuries and fatalities on our roads. Every safe decision made behind the wheel can make a difference,” Acting Sgt. Lisa Rodger said in a statement.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service thanked the community for supporting road safety initiatives and encouraged residents to follow the service’s social media channels for daily safety information during the campaign.
