Wanted man arrested after police standoff

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A wanted man was taken into custody after police executed a warrant at a Brock Street residence on the night of October 14.

Police were called to the address around 8:42 p.m. following reports that a man with outstanding warrants might be inside. The individual was wanted on multiple counts of failing to comply with probation and being unlawfully in a dwelling house.

When officers arrived, they observed the man clearly visible in a lit window, along with a woman he was under a court order not to associate with. Police spoke with the female resident, who denied he was present, despite officers’ direct observations.

Containment of the home was established while officers obtained an entry warrant. At about 10:56 p.m., police entered the residence. The woman began shouting and attempted to physically obstruct officers, police said. She was arrested for obstructing police and escorted out of the home.

A short time later, the man was found hiding under the kitchen sink. He was arrested and held for bail on the warrant-related charges, along with additional counts of breaching probation and failing to comply with a release order.

Following a bail hearing, the accused was released with conditions.
