A morning fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to a residential duplex on St. Clair Road, claiming the lives of two dogs.
Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue says crews from Stations 2 and 7 responded to the call around 6:45 a.m. on October 15. When firefighters arrived at 24493 St. Clair Road, they encountered heavy smoke and active flames inside the building.
An aggressive interior attack was launched, and the fire was brought under control. Firefighters conducted primary and secondary searches, locating three dogs inside the home. Two of the animals did not survive.
A fire inspector remained on scene investigating the cause, which has not yet been determined.
