Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 20-year-old Murphy Road resident is facing impaired driving and related charges after a single-vehicle crash in the 1400 block of Lakeshore Road early Saturday morning, Sarnia police say.
Officers were called to the scene around 3:59 a.m. on October 18 after reports of a vehicle in a ditch. Police say a red Mini Cooper had collided with several trees, sustaining significant front-end damage, with debris scattered across the area. The driver and occupants had left before officers arrived.
While police were on scene, a man approached and initially claimed to have been the driver. CCTV footage later showed that only two women had exited the vehicle, and the man admitted he had not been truthful. He was cautioned for obstructing police.
Officers later located the two women at an address on Assiniboine Crescent. Police say neither required medical attention. One of the women, a 20-year-old from Murphy Road, was identified as the driver and had been consuming alcohol.
She was arrested and taken for breath testing, where samples registered 150 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood — nearly twice the legal limit.
The driver was charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired (blood alcohol 80 plus), and fail to remain under the Highway Traffic Act. She was released with an appearance notice and issued a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension.
