The Lambton Kent District School Board is celebrating the nomination of two staff members for their leadership in advancing technology and student engagement through Esports.
Matt Sanders and Trevor Martin have been nominated for the 2025 Business Excellence Awards – Technology Award, presented by the Wallaceburg Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that use technology to enhance services, create new opportunities, and strengthen community connections.
Sanders and Martin were instrumental in launching and expanding LKDSB’s Esports program, which began in 2022 and has since become a thriving, inclusive space for students to compete, collaborate, and develop future-ready skills in a rapidly growing global industry. For many participants, it has also provided a meaningful way to connect with peers and experience teamwork beyond traditional athletics.
“This program could not have taken flight without the incredible efforts of our LKDSB IT team,” they shared. “From infrastructure to implementation, they helped us navigate every challenge and ensured the program was built with student safety and security at the forefront.”
They also expressed gratitude to the teachers and coaches who have supported the initiative from the start, volunteering their time to mentor students and foster inclusive environments where learners of all backgrounds can thrive.
Through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to student engagement, LKDSB’s Esports program continues to grow. The nomination, the board said, highlights “the power of teamwork and vision” in education.
The awards will be presented on Friday, November 7, at the CBD Club in Wallaceburg. The Lambton Kent District School Board congratulated Sanders and Martin on their nomination and extended best wishes to all nominees.
