Walpole Island First Nation re-enforces residency by-law

Chief and Council of Walpole Island First Nation have announced the re-enforcement of the community’s Residency By-Law, requiring non-Band members living on or seeking to reside on the First Nation to apply for residency approval.

In a notice issued October 31, Chief and Council said the renewed enforcement aims to uphold community safety, integrity, and respect for local governance.

As part of the process, all non-Band members will need to submit a residency application in accordance with the by-law, including a current criminal reference check. Applications can be picked up and returned to the Band Office during regular business hours.

Chief and Council thanked residents for their cooperation and understanding as the community works together to support the by-law and maintain good governance.

“Chief and Council appreciate the cooperation and understanding of all residents as we work together to uphold community safety, integrity, and respect for our Nation’s governance and by-laws,” the notice stated.

The letter was signed by Walpole Island First Nation Chief and Council.
