The Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent says this year’s Boccia for the Kids tournament has raised $35,000 to support local children and youth with physical, developmental and communication needs.
The event, held at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre, drew participants from across the province, including families, local businesses and Children’s Treatment Centre clients and staff. The day featured friendly but competitive boccia matches, showcasing the sport’s emphasis on precision, strategy and inclusion.
The Quinte Leatherbacks captured the tournament championship after a series of round-robin and playoff games.
Organizers credited the event’s success to strong community support, including lead sponsor Motion. The foundation said Motion’s commitment to accessibility and inclusive recreation played a key role in the tournament’s impact.
Funds raised will support key programs at the Children’s Treatment Centre, including social work, therapeutic recreation, music therapy and specialized equipment. These services are not fully funded by government sources but remain essential to the well-being of children and families in Chatham-Kent.
“Boccia for the Kids reflects our community’s commitment to inclusion,” said Mike Genge, president and CEO of the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent. “This tournament brought people of all abilities together and highlighted the importance of ensuring every child has access to the supports they need to thrive. We are grateful to everyone whose contributions made this tournament possible.”
The foundation thanked participants, sponsors and supporters and said it looks forward to growing the Boccia for the Kids event in future years.
