Sarnia police investigate linked break-ins in city’s north end

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Sarnia police are investigating two break-ins that occurred within hours of each other on November 15 and believe the incidents may be connected to a wider series of similar crimes reported earlier this year.

Police say the break-and-enters happened between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. In both cases, suspects appeared to be monitoring the homeowners’ routines and struck when the residences were likely empty. Entry was gained by smashing the rear patio door window, and both homes were rummaged through as thieves searched for valuables. In one case, an audible alarm limited the intruders’ time inside the home.

The first incident occurred on Ron Bolt Street in the Heritage Park subdivision. The second took place on Westpencer Gate in the city’s north end, where a suspicious white SUV, described as a Honda CR-V or a similar vehicle, was seen in the area.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division believe the two break-ins are connected and may be related to a series of similar incidents reported in the north end and Brights Grove in May 2025.

Police are urging residents to make their homes appear occupied by using interior lights on timers, leaving a radio or television on and keeping blinds or curtains in a normal position. They also encourage neighbours to watch out for unusual activity, such as unfamiliar vehicles, people seen near the rear of properties or sounds of breaking glass.

Rear entry points, police say, should be reinforced, as they are frequently targeted. Officers also recommend the use of cameras, motion-activated lighting and alarm systems to deter theft and limit the amount of time suspects remain inside a home. Residents are also advised not to post travel plans online and to ensure mail or packages are collected while away.

Police urge anyone who discovers a break-in to contact authorities immediately and avoid touching anything, as officers may use forensic techniques or K9 services to preserve evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Jason Boyd at 519-344-8861 ext. 6209 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
