Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Police have arrested a Wallaceburg man wanted on several charges after responding to a collision on Nelson Street late Wednesday morning.
Officers were called at 10:06 a.m. about an ATV that had struck a structure. Police say the driver, a 31-year-old Chatham-Kent man, was not injured but was identified as the subject of an outstanding warrant.
The warrant stemmed from a June 6 theft in Wallaceburg, where a 26-year-old woman reported her vehicle had been entered and her wallet, bank cards and other items were stolen. Police say multiple unauthorized purchases were made shortly afterward at local businesses. Surveillance video led investigators to identify a suspect, who was arrested on McNaughton Avenue and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, fraud under $5,000 and unauthorized use of credit card data. He was released with a court date of July 28 but failed to attend.
Following Wednesday’s collision, the man was taken into custody on the warrant and additionally charged with mischief and driving while prohibited. Police say he was also issued several provincial offence notices. He was released with conditions and a future court date.
