TBT: Tramway railroad near Dresden, late 1800’s

This photo was posted to the Dresden Virtual History Group by Tom Kerr.

Here is what Tom had to say about the photo:

“The tramway railroad ran from 1884 to 1897 and delivered logs to the Sydenham river that were floated down to Wallaceburg and cut into lumber. The track was shown in a red line on the survey maps of the time and went about 20 miles north into Dawn Township. The Dawn line ran right past the Kerr farm at lot #10. My father, George Kerr, was the person who recommended the road be named Tramway. There is also a short line south to the base line. The logs were stamped in the butt end — I own my G-grandfathers stamp with a “JK”. The engineer was my g-uncle George Fallis Kerr and the firemen was another g-uncle Charles Kerr. George married Alice Tackaberry and they had 4 children. Charles, never married, became a Baptist minister and died in France in March 1918 from a direct hit by an artillery shell.”
