Man jailed after breaching probation at downtown ATM

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 32-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested Sunday evening after police say he breached probation by attending an ATM vestibule on King Street West.

Officers on patrol spotted the man around 5:56 p.m. Police say he has been under a probation order since April that prohibits him from being at that location.

He was arrested and transported to the South West Detention Centre, where he will remain in custody until a Dec. 4 video court appearance.

Police say proactive patrols in the downtown core have increased significantly this year, with 198 foot patrols conducted to date compared to 90 in 2024. The service says the increase reflects an effort to enhance public safety and address concerns before they escalate.
