Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Police responded to a report of an erratic driver in the afternoon of Dec. 20, 2025, following a call from a concerned citizen in the area of Russell Street and London Road.
The caller continued to provide updates on the vehicle’s location until officers located it shortly after 2:30 p.m. travelling northbound on Colbourne Road, just south of Rosedale Avenue. Police observed the vehicle drifting side to side within its lane and nearly striking the curb before overcorrecting into the centre turning lane.
A traffic stop was initiated south of Errol Road. Officers observed the driver displaying physical signs consistent with impairment by a drug. After being advised of the arrest, the driver refused commands to place the vehicle in park and attempted to manipulate the gearshift while becoming increasingly agitated. Police, believing the driver may attempt to flee, requested additional units to block the vehicle.
When the driver continued to refuse to exit, officers were required to break the vehicle’s windows in order to gain control. The driver was eventually removed from the vehicle and handcuffed following a brief struggle.
A search incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of a small quantity of suspected cocaine. The individual was transported to police headquarters for further testing, where investigators also determined the driver was bound by a probation order at the time of the incident.
The 39-year-old St. Clair Boulevard resident was held for a bail hearing on multiple charges, including impaired operation by drug, resisting a police officer, drug possession and failing to comply with probation. He was later released from custody with conditions following a bail hearing.
