Environment Canada has issued a yellow-level freezing rain warning for Chatham-Kent, with hazardous conditions expected Friday morning into the afternoon.
Freezing rain is forecast to begin Friday morning, with ice accretion of two to five millimetres likely before precipitation changes over to rain later in the day as temperatures rise above the freezing mark. Forecasters say confidence in the forecast is high.
Roads and walkways are expected to become icy and slippery, and motorists should anticipate difficult winter driving conditions. Icy surfaces may be hard to detect, increasing the risk of slips and falls, and localized utility outages are possible.
Residents are urged to use caution when walking or driving and to adjust travel plans as needed. Environment Canada advises the public to continue monitoring weather alerts and forecasts as conditions evolve.
