Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 49-year-old man with no fixed address has been charged following a disturbance on London Line late Friday night.
Police say officers were called at about 9 p.m. on Dec. 26 after reports of a man standing in the roadway and striking the ground with an object. When officers arrived, they observed the man in the entranceway of a nearby business holding a tool described as a modified crowbar with a sledgehammer on one end and a pickaxe on the other.
The man complied with police directions to drop the object. Officers noted fresh damage to the roadway and placed him under arrest.
Further investigation determined the man was subject to both a probation order and release conditions, including requirements to keep the peace and prohibitions on possessing tools such as a sledgehammer or pickaxe.
He was held for bail on charges including mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with court orders, and was later released with conditions. Police say they have had multiple interactions with the man since May 2025, including several arrests and charges. Video and images of the incident have been posted online by police.
