Man charged after break and enter

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 35-year-old man with no fixed address is facing a breaking and entering charge following an incident on Queen Street earlier this week.

Police say officers were called at about 10:20 a.m. on Dec. 26 to a reported break and enter in progress in the 200 block of Queen Street. A witness reported seeing a man attempt to open several doors before gaining entry through a sliding window.

Officers arrived within minutes and found the front door open. Inside the residence, police located a man in a bedroom and observed evidence consistent with the use of an illegal substance. He was taken into custody at the scene.

A search incident to arrest uncovered body armour worn beneath the man’s winter coat, as well as a knife found in a chest pocket of the armour. Police say the investigation into those items is ongoing.

The man was held for bail on a charge of breaking and entering and was later released by the court with conditions.
